Internet Marketing 101
April 4th, 2003
Hey gang;
OK, let's jump right in here. I want to discuss
education this week, but not in the traditional sense of classes and such.
I want to talk about educating yourself through reading newsletters. Folks,
educating yourself and learning is an ongoing process in this business
called marketing.
How I decided upon this topic today was because of a newsletter I received
Sunday morning before heading off to church.
It came from Phil Wiley and it's got a great article this morning. (It
usually does..grin..) Phil puts out a great newsletter and you should
take a look at it!
You can read this issue online at:
http://www.ozemedia.com/newsletters/issue270.htm
More details about his "All The Secrets" newsletter can be found
at:
http://www.ozemedia.com/
Specifically read his article in the above issue on how he is making money
by creating mini-sites,
this is his specialty. Here is just one example of how a person does what
fits them best to make money. Keep that in mind, find what fits you
best.
Side Note:
(Now I'm not talking about a passion for your product or topic (that helps
too), but rather a promotion method that you find is the most productive
and comfortable for you. Some people use articles, others use free
reports or ebooks, and still others use the search engines and ads in
ezines. If you are not comfortable with it then you will not be as apt
to be effective with it. Don't get me wrong though, we should attempt
to incorporate several methods into our marketing stategy.)
Anyway, maybe you wonder why I think education is so important in this
business. Well the big reason is it's constantly changing and we have
to change with it.
Tried and true marketing methods do continue to work, but we also always
have to try to find innovative and new methods to market our product as
well. The best way to do this, is to read about what others are doing.
A great source for this is of course reading other marketing newsletters
by those that are actually doing it.
"Geeesssh Gary, you are crazy! Do you know how many newsletters
are out there???? You want me to go out and subscribe to all of them??"
No, now don't get me wrong and just go out and subscribe to every marketing
newsletter you can find. If you do, you'll soon be overwhelmed with newsletters
and email bulging from your email inbox. No, there is a method to my madness.
Let's review a simple method, admittedly it takes time but then all good
things tend to take some time (and work)... of course I had to
squeeze that in...grin...
Notes For Success:
1. Subscribe to 2-3 new newsletters depending upon your reading
habits and ability to read and digest them. Now, each week for three weeks,
read each one through and note just how much the writer gives you original
or helpful content that relates to your business.
2. Rate each one to see how it stacks up. This way you have a comparison
system to compare them. This should be your own system based on what is
most important to you in benefits to receive from the newsletter.
If you don't like classified ads then deduct for that. If you don't mind
them and if the newsletter has great content then allow for that in your
rating system. Just develop a system that works best for you.
3. After 3 weeks you should have a good feel for each newsletter.
Drop the ones that aren't delivering what you want. Keep the one or ones
that you like. Then start all over again. Pick 2-3 more and restart the
process.
Why? Because you are optimizing your reading time and the newsletters
coming into your email box will be those that you will truly read and
derive solid information from that keeps you reading them each issue.
Come on folks, how many newsletters do you get now that you probably
never look at and just delete. Why, why, why wear out your delete key??
Not to mention the distraction of having to delete them.
That's why I suggest at least reading three issues of each of the newsletters
to give them a fair chance in your rating system. After all any publisher
can have an off issue, so give each one a fair chance in your rating system.
After that, optimize to gain time and save your delete key too...grin...
Here are a couple of more newsletter suggestions:
Willie Crawford's "Limitless Marketing". Willie writes all of
his own content in his newsletter and it is published weekly. (Look in
the side bar on the left)

Web Business Today written by Damon G. Zahariades.

OK, enough on newsletters lets move on.
Free eBooks suggestions:
Check out these free ebooks to help you with CGI scripts and for html
forms. These can help you understand better how to use CGI and creating
html forms. For those of you that want to "do it yourself" then
these should help.

Oh yeah don't forget to check out Newsmon.com
for an additional alternative method to receiving your newsletters. I
had hoped to have it implemented this week but had several deadlines to
meet this week, hey I gotta pay the bills too you know...grin.. but I
should have it in place by next issue for sure as an additional option
to receiving my newsletter!
See ya'll next week, same day, same place!
Also, I'm lining up some great interviews with some other marketers which
I'll be including portions of those in upcoming issues.
If you want me to discuss a specific topic just shoot me an email.
Thanks for joining me!
